Dance Instruction/Instructor Bios.

I believe dancing is more than just learning how to move in time to the music. To me dancing is a deep expression of the soul. And just as the body is trained to turn, leap, and lengthen, so too the expression of the soul needs to be cultivated and encouraged to take flight. My passion is to aid the development of personal expression in each of my students through the discipline of dance. My students will gently learn to reach deep within themselves and place a part of themselves on display with confidence and without apology.

MEET OUR INSTRUCTORS:

Karen Zakrzewski (pictured at left)began dancing at the age of 7 at Encore Studio of Dance in South Milwaukee. While studying there she was chosen to become an assistant teacher for both ballet and hip-hop classes. In 2003 she was given her own classes becoming the studio’s hip-hop Instructor until the Spring of 2007. During the Summer of 2007 Karen danced for the Wisconsin Professional Dance Team, “The Diamond Dancers” performing at Milwaukee Brewer games. She auditioned and was accepted into the Peck School of the Arts where she has just obtained her Bachelor in Fine Arts Degree, with a focus on dance performance and choreography. In the Fall of 2009 Karen auditioned and was accepted into the Danceworks Second Company- DPC2. Danceworks is a Professional Modern Dance Company located on Milwaukee’s Eastside. Dancers who are chosen to be a part of their second company are sometimes after a season, chosen to become part of the main Company.
Karen is very excited to be a part of the beginning of the AAC program and to witness how much it is going to expand and grow!

Emily Bennett (pictured on the right) is a native of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. She began dancing at age nine. At fourteen she began her formal training under Lynne Bolitho, director of the Marquette Center for Dance, Marquette, MI. There she had the opportunity to perform many classical lead roles in productions of Swan Lake, The Nutcracker, and Sleeping Beauty. She also danced leading roles and contributed choreography for many original works created exclusively for the Marquette Center for Dance. At age 16 she was asked to do student teaching at the center and it became apparent that she possessed a natural ability to draw out the best in her students. Three years later she was given her own classes. In 1999 she became the director of the ballet program at the Academy of Dance in Escanaba, MI for two years. In 2003 she moved with her husband to the Milwaukee area where she completed her formal training at The Milwaukee Ballet School while teaching at Encore Studio of Dance in South Milwaukee. In 2006 she was promoted to Director of Ballet Instruction at Encore Studio of Dance. While there she has directed several performances for the inpatient care unit of Columbia Hospital.
In the Fall of 2008 The Milwaukee Ballet School opened their Town Center Branch in Brookfield and having a need for more teachers Emily became a Faculty Member. She enjoys the professionalism of the environment at the Milwaukee Ballet School and is excited to bring some of that professionalism into her creative vision for AAC.
